Elevating Our Safety Standards: Your Role in Preventing Incidents

Dear Neighbors & Friends,

Over the past several months, the Safety & Security Committee has issued a series of reminders intended to raise general awareness about maintaining a secure environment in our community. These messages were designed to keep safety top of mind. However, due to recent incidents, we are now compelled to elevate the seriousness of our message.

We are asking all residents to take proactive steps to ensure that all gates, garage doors, and entry points are properly closed and secured after use.

There have been multiple recent instances of unauthorized individuals gaining access to our property—specifically through the garage and dock areas. Most concerning, a resident recently encountered a non-resident sleeping on the dock after entering through a dock gate that had been left ajar.

While we have multiple layers of security in place, including the Openpath access system and surveillance cameras, these tools are only effective if all physical entry points are properly closed and not deliberately or accidentally left open.

Community security is not just a system—it’s a shared responsibility.

We need everyone to stay vigilant and mindful:

  • Do not prop open any doors or gates unless they are attended especially at night.

  • Always wait to confirm that a door or gate fully latches behind you both when entering and exiting.

  • Do not allow unknown individuals to “tailgate” behind you through access points.

  • If you notice a door or gate malfunctioning or left open, please report it immediately to management.

  • Do not confront intruders.  Call 911.

  • Share keys, fobs, or access codes only with highly trusted individuals and report any lost keys or fobs, or compromised access codes to management.

We all play a role in ensuring the safety and comfort of our community. Your attention to these small but critical actions can prevent more serious security issues from arising.

Thank you for your cooperation and commitment to keeping our community safe.

Sincerely,

The Safety & Security Committee

Very timely reminder! Yesterday, I watched 6 people walking to the end of the dock and eventually leave by way of the pedestrian gate. A few minutes ago, while taking Rosie for a walk, I left by way of the front pedestrian gate, which was ajar, and returned by way of the back pedestrian gate which was secured only to find that the pier garage access gate was not secured. Yikes!!
