Dear Pilot House Community, The Physical Security Committee has continued to monitor the behavior of the Proxy-Card System. While we are still ironing out some minor bugs, overall the system has performed well. We are very pleased with the recent upgrade to the main pedestrian gate, which was recently fixed to prevent it from slamming after each close. This has presented us with the opportunity to make some minor adjustments to the behavior of the system at the gate. Beginning Thursday March 12 @ 7AM, the gate will no longer remain unlatched for 40 seconds. The unlatched frequency instead will remain open for 8 seconds. This will occur when it detects a cell phone or when an authorized fob is presented at the reader. This reduction in the open time will allow the gate time to close and latch naturally, while reducing the potential for any unauthorized access from Bute Street. The interior lobby doors and lower dock gate will continue to remain open for 40 seconds either when it detects a cell phone or when an authorized fob is presented at the reader. Please know that we will continue to monitor the system and will consider further adjustments as needed. Thank you for your patience, while we continue to build upon a safer environment for the Pilot House community, Physical Security Committee (Bruce Robertson, John Bowers, Phil Copley)

Suzanne, thank you so much for your comment. Your observation is precisely why we are planning this change in timeframe for the gate. The committee will continue to monitor the gate even after the change has occurred. We believe this change will in fact allow the gate to close and latch as it’s supposed to.
The pedestrian gate is not closing on its own, in spite of the sign saying to allow it to do so. Every morning lately when I leave for my morning walk, it’s been open. I have to gently pull it shut in order for it to remain latched.
