COMMUNIQUE- IMPORTANT PARKING INFO FROM THE CITY OF NORFOLK

Norfolk Prepares for Rain and Flooding Through Weekend

NORFOLK, VA  As the remnants of Hurricane Sally head to the Norfolk area and Hurricane Teddy churns in the Atlantic, City crews are preparing for the rain and tidal flooding associated with the tropical systems.

Crews are cleaning storm drains and ditches to ease potential flooding, monitoring pump stations and flood gates.  Crews will be on standby to respond to flooded streets and clear storm debris.  Residents are asked to help by cleaning the curbs, gutters and ditches on their property of debris. Loose items in the yard should be secured.

The City will open city garages so that residents can move their vehicles to higher ground. The following garages will be open beginning Thursday, September 17 at 5:00 p.m. Residents should not park in reserved spaces and must remove their vehicles by 8:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 23.

· York Street Garage, 215 West York Street

· Bank Street Garage, 441 Bank Street

· St Paul’s Lot, 521 Wood Street

At 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 17, all Old Dominion University parking garages will open to Norfolk residents. Please do not move or cross barricades. The parking garages will close to Norfolk residents at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 23. At that time parking permit and meter payment requirements in campus parking facilities will return to normal.
